HORIZON 02025 . DEEP TIME ARCHIVE

Dearborn Gathering

Dignity, Agency, and Place

The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation · July 31 – August 1

The Convening Gathering

A coalition of education innovators convened at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, from July 31st to August 1st, 02025. The gathering aimed to move beyond outdated visions of the future and approach work with fresh perspectives, with conversations centered on dignity, agency, and place. The event was hosted by the Henry Ford Learning Institute and provided a space for participants to engage in deep discussions about the future of education.

“The future of education will not be built on isolated strategic plans alone, but through daily conditions that help people feel seen, heard, and worthy.”

Next Steps & Continuing Work

Since June 02024, the initiative has continued to explore the ideas generated: defining values, setting a foundation for future gatherings focused on storytelling, and committing to building better learning experiences.

Foundational Inquiries

  1. What if the purpose of education was not to prepare youth for a workforce?
  2. What would learning look like if school was optional?
  3. What are the questions we should be asking about the future of learning?

Key Insights Recorded

  • Reimagining education in the distant future requires it to remain human-centered.
  • Constants like relationships, nature, curiosity, creativity, and the unknown will likely endure.
  • The future of education is about navigation rather than certainty, requiring a balance between immediate improvements and envisioning an emergent human future.
